Job Description

SONO is seeking a warm, polished, and experienced Restaurant Captain to join our front-of-house team. Our ideal candidate is a natural host who combines attentive service with strong leadership and a genuine enthusiasm for food, wine, and hospitality.

The Captain oversees the guest experience within their section, guiding each table from arrival through departure while coordinating closely with servers, support staff, the kitchen, and management. This role is ideal for someone who notices the small details, communicates with confidence, and remains gracious and composed in a busy dining room.

• Welcome guests warmly and create a thoughtful, personalized dining experience.

• Take ownership of the tables and service team assigned to your section.

• Present menus and confidently explain SONO’s dishes, ingredients, preparation methods, and overall concept.

• Take accurate food and beverage orders while accommodating allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests.

• Make informed wine, and food-pairing recommendations.

• Coordinate the timing and presentation of each course with the kitchen and service team.

• Direct and support, back servers, runners, and other team members throughout service.

• Monitor tables carefully, anticipate guest needs, and resolve concerns promptly and professionally.

• Maintain accurate checks and process payments correctly.

• Complete opening, closing, and side-work responsibilities.

• Follow all food-safety, sanitation, responsible alcohol-service, and workplace-safety standards.

• Participate in pre-shift meetings, menu education, tastings, and ongoing training.

• Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining room.

• Represent SONO’s standards of hospitality with professionalism, warmth, and consistency.

• At least two years of experience in an upscale, fine-dining, or similarly service-focused restaurant preferred.

• Strong knowledge of restaurant service steps and dining-room etiquette.

• Working knowledge of wine and food pairings.

• Clear, respectful communication and strong organizational skills.

• Ability to lead a service team and collaborate effectively with the kitchen and management.

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities at once.

• Calm and solutions-oriented under pressure.

• Genuine interest in hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.

• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely carry trays, plates, and restaurant supplies.
